I’ve started watching Dancing with the Stars primarily for Luda. I was lucky enough to teach-assist and learn from her for two months during a beginner salsa class. She is an amazing dancer (5 times world salsa champion), a great and funny teacher and, as the Dancing with the Stars series proves it for us every weekend, she is a fantastic choreographer as well. No wonder, she has won the competition in 2008 and congrats to her on keeping Johnny Ruffo’s scattered personality at a bay.
However, what I really would like to write about today is Mel B, and her perfume bottle-shaped beautiful dresses she is regularly wearing on the show. I remember Mel B from the Spice Girls when I was a teenager, but haven’t heard too much of her ever since. They were the fastest selling British band since the Beatles and I loved the way they “spiced up my life” but what happened to the individual spices since then, I did not know until I have seen Mel B recently on Australian TV promoting a weight loss program losing 15 kg weight after the birth of her third daughter. It turns out she has just recently relocated from LA to Sydney to become a TV host on Dancing with the Stars.
The first thing I’ve noticed was her sweet personality and accent. She is really “fony” and charming with the friendly and direct way she talks to the contestants and the “jodges” adding a true vivid colour to the show. “Well don” Mel B and big high-five for shocking the Australian audience by telling to the first eliminated celebrity to go and “get wasted”..Good to have you around!:)
Now, let’s see who are the designers of those fabulous dresses you are wearing each week?
Dress: Basil Soda
Diamonds Earrings and Bracelet: Anton Jewellery
Basil Soda is a Lebanese fashion designer, whose haute cauture creations are very popular among the celebrities all over the world. His mermaid shape dresses appear on the red carpet on and on and all I can do is a deep sigh.. OHH MY GOD how gorgeous these dresses are…………….His view of women is definitely reflected in his breathtakingly beautiful garments:
“The Lebanese woman is aware of her femininity and respects it. I, as a fashion designer, always like to see a woman being feminine. I don’t want her to disappear, and she is always present in my clothes. But I also like a woman to be strong, to be a little like a man, with a masculine side, to work, to be energetic and unaffected. Before going out in the evening she can keep on her day clothes and add some accessory, or change ballet shoes for court shoes. I see a woman as at the same time seductive and untouchable. One of the most delightful sensations is to see in a man’s face a tormenting desire to approach a woman while he does not dare to do so.”
Mel B was wearing a Basil Soda dress on week 1 and 4 of the Dancing with the Stars, however, I have chosen another favourite she was shining in on week 2.
Dress: Roland Mouret
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Roland Mouret is a well-known French designer whose now legendary Moon dress was made famous by no one else, than Victoria Beckham, the “Posh Spice”. Let’s see how does the darling of curvy women see the ladies:
“When I think of the body I always think what makes a nice bum? I think woman loves it – but man loves it more. It’s all about the bottom .”
“The collection is all the time based on the same inspiration – women. Women are so complex it is easy to be inspired by them every season. A woman is like a mirrorball in a club – thousands of little pieces shining in every direction.” Isn’t that charming?
Dress: Sandra Mansour
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
I couldn’t skip the above picture either. The colour of the dress suits her olive skin very well. It has been created by Sandra Mansour, a designer born in Switzerland but again, with Lebanese roots. Escada, Jovani and Johanna Johnson, the famous couture and bridal designer based in Sydney are also being represented on the impressive list of international designers Mel B is supporting with her Sunday evening TV appearances.
She is such a talented woman. She not only looks good but is a fighter (losing 15 kilos is a real challenge as we all know!) she is playful and cheeky, a good dancer (taking second place with his partner in the US Dancing with the Stars), a shining actress and television personality (acting in two movies and musicals), has got her own TV show, continued to be a successful solo artist as a singer, she has even introduced her own signature Catty Couture fashion line couple of years ago and now grab a chair, she has become a best-selling author in 2002 with her autobiography “Catch a fire” reaching #7 in book sales charts.
Bring it on Melanie, can’t wait to see you again this weekend on Dancing with the Stars!
Fantastic news, Luda just did it again!! After winning DWTS series 8 now she has repeatedly collected the mirrorball trophy. Congratulations on the well-deserved victory with Johnny Ruffo.
Another remarkable news is that Mel B has donated her gowns worn on the show to the McGrath Foundation supporting Australian families experiencing breast cancer. The designer clothes have been listed on Ebay some with an original retail price of around $3-6000 now being sold for only a couple of hundred dollars.
