Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2014 has kicked off with an absolutely glamorous contemporary interpretation of classic 1920’s/30’s Parisienne silhouettes showcased by Aurelio Costarella this morning.
Western-Australia’s most successful designer has named Man Ray and his muses as source of main inspiration behind the collection titled “Solaire” taking us on a ‘journey from delicately pretty to decadently noir.” He swept me off my feet.. I loved those delicate fabrics, pretty colours and feminine silhouettes. Tres jolie!
The astonishing evening gowns evidenced the strong influence of the most iconic designers living at the turn of the century and the early 1920’s such as:
*Madame Grès – the “grand sphinx” of the haute couture famous for her flowing Grecian-goddess style dresses
*Sonia Delaunay – noted for her use of strong colours and geometric shapes
*Madeleine Vionnet – the Queen of the bias cut introducing the revolutionary feminine new look to the world of fashion
*Paul Poiret – best known for freeing women from corsets and for his unique inventions such as hobble skirts and harem pantaloons
Apropos corsets and feathers.. Let’s just not write them off yet!
Aurelio Costarella’s luxurious, sensual but also simple and modern designs have earned a well-deserved reputation for the brand in the world of celebrities. International superstars like Rihanna, Dita von Teese, Eva Mendes, Tyra Banks, Nicole Scherzinger, Dannii Minogue, Geri Haliwell, Natalie Imbruglia and Jennifer Hawkins have all worn his exquisite masterpieces.
What a remarkable way to celebrate 30 years in the fashion industry!
